Living Equalities

TA - Ego States and Intersectionality

You may be familiar with the relational units exercise and how it can be a powerful way of highlighting the impact of teachers in shaping how individuals see themselves as learners, the role of the educator and the purpose of education. (For more information and an exercise on this theme explore the link here).

However, we can also use the same model to explore the internal messages we have in relation to factors connected with identity. First, choose a specific dimension, for example race, gender or class. Second, consider each question and how it links with each of the ego state components. How do you find this reflection helpful in identifying the encouragement or prohibition that you experience in your practice. Respond to the questions in numerical order - note this with regard to questions 6 and 7!
